Take to the hotel’s upper porch to feel a bit of quietude; rent a couple of bikes to remember the old-fashioned allure of the wind in your hair and the pedals beneath your feet; or drive the mile between Ventnor and Atlantic City to take advantage of all things AC.
Atlantic City—enjoying renewed popularity thanks to HBO’s Boardwalk Empire—is known as the “Gambling Capital of the East Coast,” but provides much more than casinos. (Though if casinos are your thing, you’ll find the likes of the Hilton, Borgata, Caesar’s, Tropicana, Harrah’s, and Trump Plaza, to name a few!) Visit the Atlantic City Aquarium, complete with a touch tank, or see the tallest lighthouse in New Jersey, the Absecon Lighthouse, with its ample views of the shoreline. Don’t miss the Steel Pier, a classic amusement pier with games, funnel cakes, bumper cars and the requisite Ferris wheel. And if you really want to go for the random – take a trip to nearby Margate to visit Lucy the Elephant, which is not actually an animal but a 65-ton building, included in the National Register of Historic Places, and built to look like a lovable pachyderm.
